What's on at Curtin?
Staff Induction
Curtin offers a comprehensive induction process to welcome and assist new employees. Staff Services provides an initial 'sign-on' introduction for all continuing and fixed term employees, a special information session on superannuation and salary packaging benefits, the formal induction sessions, which are complemented by the local area induction with your manager or supervisor. Additionally, Induction Sessions are held twice yearly by Academic Services for all new sessional staff and by the Office of Research and Development for new Supervisors of Higher Degree by Research students.
- Corporate Induction events are currently held three times a year. Attendance is mandatory for all new continuing and fixed term staff, who will be given an invitation to the next event. Staff who have recently changed their work roles at Curtin may also benefit from attending this session. The Induction focuses on your rights and obligations, the strategic directions being faced by Curtin and the external influences that may affect us. It also provides excellent opportunities to build your professional networks across the University and to hear from Executive Management who participate in the session. If you have any questions about this please contact Organisational Development on ext 4140 or Rebecca Crosbie on ext 9003.
- At the HR sign-on, Academic staff will be provided with the handbook Teaching and Learning at Curtin and advised of the Foundations of Learning and Teaching program. The handbook is also available on the Learning Support Network website Full details about the program are available at the Foundations of Learning and Teaching Program.
- Sessional Inductions are held at the beginning of each semester. These sessions are for all new Sessional staff and cover compliance with essential policies, information about the student profile and support services at Curtin for staff and students, as well as teaching and learning at Curtin. Practical tips are an important feature of the session. This is also a chance to develop your networks across Curtin. Further information and registration is available via the Organisational Development Website .
- An induction for New Supervisors of Higher Degree by Research students is held during each semester. These sessions provide an overview of the Higher Degree process, your role, student learning, and the support that is available through the Office of Research and Development. Further sessions will be available in 2008 - you may contact Leah Dowsett on ext 3155 for more information, or go to the Research and Development web-site.
