Application preparation

Correctly preparing your application gives you the best chance at being shortlisted for interview. Your application should includes sufficient information about your suitability for the position and demonstrate how your skills, knowledge and experience match with the requirements of the role.

Covering letters

The covering letter should include a brief summary of what you will bring to the position. It should take into account your experience and achievements, your vision for the role and include details as to why the position is of interest and what contribution you can make to Curtin.

Curriculum Vitae

For your application to be considered, your Curriculum Vitae must contain:

  • Details of education, professional training and qualifications with year of completion;
  • A full list of publications and research grants for academic positions;
  • Previous positions held; including relevant dates, titles, reporting lines, responsibilities and key achievements;
  • Any other relevant information such as contributions to professional associations and learned societies, and community activities.

Referee details

You will need to provide full contact details for two professional referees who have agreed to supply confidential work references, on request. Please explain your professional relationship with each referee (e.g. manager, colleague, peer, subordinate).

Referees will only be contacted after prior consultation, and it is your responsibility to ensure referees are willing to provide reports when contacted.

The University reserves the right to seek reports on the suitability of candidates from experts in the field, other than those nominated by the candidate.

Statement of claims

To support your application you may wish to include a brief statement of claims against the selection criteria. The statement should provide examples which demonstrate how you meet or exceed the selection criteria.

It is not essential that you address the selection criteria individually, but the information provided in your covering letter and Curriculum Vitae should include sufficient information to enable the Hiring Manager or Talent Advisor to make an informed assessment on your suitability for interview.

Additional documentation

You may also wish to include copies of relevant educational qualifications, certificates, research interests, achievements, projects, publication summaries, academic distinctions, medals and awards if applicable.

Eligibility

On appointment, you will be required to provide original or certified copies of international qualifications/certificates, 100 points of identification, proof of residency/citizenship which shows your eligibility to work in Australia and where relevant, a change of name certificate.

It is a requirement of all new employees to have a National Police Clearance. Subject to the work requirements of the advertised position, you may also be required to complete a Working with Children Check.
